📖 Karnataka Government Salary Structure 2026
Karnataka Government salary is calculated from revised basic pay, Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, transport or other allowances and deductions. After the Karnataka 7th State Pay Commission revision, many employees search for new basic pay, DA rate, HRA rate, NPS deduction and in-hand salary. This calculator is designed as a practical salary estimator, not as an official HRMS or treasury statement.
The Karnataka 7th State Pay Commission recommendations were implemented with effect from 1 August 2024. The revision was based on adding 31% Dearness Allowance and a fitment of 27.50% to the basic pay as on 1 July 2022, giving a 58.50% increase in basic salary and pension. This 58.5% is a pay revision impact, not the monthly DA rate to be used for every employee after revision.
Basic Pay and Revised Pay Scales
Basic pay is the foundation of salary. It is fixed after pay revision, increment, promotion or pay fixation order. Employees should enter only revised basic pay shown in the latest pay slip, not gross salary or net salary. DA, HRA, NPS and many allowances are calculated from basic pay or basic plus DA, so even a small pay fixation change affects the total salary.
Dearness Allowance Calculation
Dearness Allowance is an inflation-linked allowance calculated as a percentage of basic pay. For example, if revised basic pay is ₹50,000 and DA is 14.25%, DA is ₹7,125. Karnataka Finance Department updates DA through Government Orders. The DA page shows that DA for 2024 revised pay scales moved from 12.25% to 14.25% with effect from 1 July 2025, while UGC/AICTE 2016 scale DA moved from 55% to 58%. That is why the calculator keeps DA percentage editable.
HRA Calculation
House Rent Allowance depends on posting place, city classification, government accommodation status and applicable state order. A Bengaluru employee may use a higher HRA percentage than a rural posting, but the exact rate should be checked from the latest HRA order and pay slip. This calculator uses editable/illustrative HRA choices so that users can match the amount shown by their department instead of relying on an outdated fixed A/B/C matrix.
| Component | How to Enter | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Basic Pay | Latest revised basic from pay slip | Base for DA, HRA and NPS |
| DA % | Latest order rate for your pay scale | Rates differ by revised scale category |
| HRA % | Posting/city rate or 0 if accommodation provided | Major part of gross salary |
| NPS/GPF | NPS estimate or manual deduction | Reduces in-hand salary |
| Other Deductions | Tax, loan, society, GIS, insurance | Explains pay slip differences |
NPS, GPF and Net Salary
Gross salary is not the same as in-hand salary. Common deductions include NPS employee contribution, GPF subscription, professional tax, income tax, group insurance, KGID, loan recovery, festival advance recovery, co-operative society recovery and department-specific deductions. For NPS employees, a common estimate is 10% of Basic Pay plus DA. For GPF employees, deduction is usually manual and depends on subscription.
Example Salary Calculation
Suppose a Karnataka employee has revised basic pay of ₹50,000, DA of 14.25%, HRA of 24%, fixed allowance of ₹2,000 and other allowance of ₹1,000. DA becomes ₹7,125 and HRA becomes ₹12,000. Gross salary becomes ₹72,125. If NPS is 10% of basic plus DA, NPS is about ₹5,713. After professional tax and other deductions, approximate in-hand salary may be around ₹66,000, depending on tax, insurance and recoveries.
Why Pay Slip May Differ
Your actual pay slip may differ from the calculator due to arrears, increment date, leave salary, recovery, suspended allowance, HRA restriction, government quarters, NPS rounding, KGID premium, tax deduction or special post-based allowance. Therefore, this page should be used for planning, SEO information and quick estimation only. Official pay should always be checked from HRMS, K2, treasury, DDO or accounts office.
8th Pay Commission Search Intent
Employees also search for 8th Pay Commission Karnataka salary, fitment factor, expected increase and DA merger. Until Karnataka issues its own adoption or implementation order, current salary should be calculated using existing Karnataka revised state pay scales. This page can mention 8th Pay Commission for search coverage but should not replace the present calculator with speculative numbers.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not use 58% DA for all Karnataka employees without checking pay scale category.
- Do not enter gross salary in the basic pay field.
- Do not forget that 58.5% refers to pay revision impact, not current DA for all.
- Do not apply HRA if government accommodation is provided.
- Do not ignore NPS, GPF, tax, KGID, GIS and loan deductions.
- Do not treat this calculator as official pay fixation or arrears calculation.
